i like to imagine that gaga took inspiration from one of my favourites performance artists, klaus nomi. he was an amazing vocalist and performance artist from germany who moved to new york creating theatrical live performances to large audiences and also inspiring david bowie. he released two albums before his horrific early death in 1983.
